George Liquor Layout

My attempt at laying out a sequence from this John K comic. This was a fun challenge; rather than doing just one drawing, I had to create several images that work as a sequence. I don't have my lightbox, so this is gonna look a bit rough. But the drawings do 'flip'!

Some of the details in the comic are quite sketchy, like the roots on the tree, so I had to interpret 'em a bit. I also had to redraw the way George holds the saw - he switches from one hand to the other.

I thought I'd make a few changes to this drawing to bring it in line with the next, (the position of the saw for example) but I'm not sure if that was the right decision... should I have done it the other way around?

The Wacky Wabbit 2

Two seperate poses (that relate to each other) combine to form a clear overall shape.

The Wacky Wabbit

Some studies from that great bit where Bugs yells 'BAM!' at Fudd.

Slab & Ernie 2

The contrasts are a little toned down, but I think the proportions are pretty good.

Puffy Yogi 2

The main thing that stands out to me on this one is that Yogi's face looks much rounder in the photo - my own drawing looks kind of flat. Also I did a crappy job on the belly.

Danny Kay

From 'Book Revue', here's Danny Kay - err, Daffy Duck.

For a long time I had no idea what was going on in this cartoon, as I had no idea who Danny Kay was. So today I looked him up on Youtube and here's what I found:

Wow! Is this guy talented or what? I can see why Bob Clampett liked him!

Drawin' in the Library

Stuck in the library with a 2,500 word essay to write, our brave hero (that's me, folks) knows what he must do - forget that dumb ol' essay and draw funny pictures!

(Or at least, you know, copy 'em...)

Puffy Yogi

This Yogi Bear toy is a bugger to draw - John K sure knows how to set an exercise!

Here's my attempt at describing the texture and form (I believe the technical term is 'balloonability'). This took about 1,278 tries until I got one that was kinda-sorta okay...ish.

Charlie Dog

The poses came out pretty good, the heads... not so much.

The Bastard

Donald Bastard is a bad-ass, so I tried to do him justice. With any luck my drawing isn't quite shoddy enough to provoke him into kicking down my front door and tearing my face off...

Uh oh, I hear the flipper-flap of angry duck feet.

Mickey Mouse

Slab & Ernie

Boy, what a week! 3rd year Animation is hard work, kids.

Anyway, I'm back with more John K layouts. Here's Slab and Ernie about to knock seven shades of snot out of Booby Bigloaf - As you can see, I'm a bit out of practice!

Kaspar No 11

Got a big deadline this Friday, so it's not easy to find the time to do these. The good news is I get more confident with each new drawing!

Kaspar No 9

Woah, that left foot came out waaaaay too big! But I quite like the face - wasn't sure how I was going to handle it at first.

Kaspar No 6

Looks like Kaspar put on a little weight in my layout!

Toes

Re-drew the toes from the last layout, trying to make 'em more varied in shape.

Underpants

Damn, this one isn't nearly as close as I thought it was. It's odd how a drawing can look good on paper, and then turn out to be crap when you scan the bugger!

This one's going on the 'draw it again!' pile.

More Stuff

Drew a few corrections that John K pointed out

- redrew some fur so it doesn't cut into the construction
- adjustments to eyes and nose
- pushed left shoulder up a bit

My drawing is still toned down from the original, but I'll try to avoid that with the next layout.

EDIT: And here it is!
